To Honor

Stopped here on our way home from a two-and-a-half day outing to DC for an award presentation.

Seems fitting, I thought, at a time when our values are being attacked, to pay respects to the many who sacrificed for the freedom we enjoy still. And there have been many, more than the 400,000 buried here. There have been men and women, blacks and latinos, the peoples of the First Nations, and peoples of all creeds and faiths, and those who were citizens of this country but born in other countries.

Mami and Papi brought me here many years ago, but I should visit again, and perhaps again and again, to pray and say thanks while standing on these hallowed grounds.

I am not for war, but I am for honoring those who serve
